Practice Guidelines

The following practice guidelines are in addition to, or supersede, USA football TACKLE PRACTICE GUIDELINES, guidelines set forth by SWMFL, as well as any mandates by the State of Illinois.


Stage 1 – Pre season camp and conditioning (July 27th – July 31st)
  • Groups allowed up to 50 participants, maintaining at least 30 feet between groups.
  • Participants must enter the activity area using one of two access points.  Only certified coaches and participants will be allowed in the activity area.
  • All participants will be screened prior to access to the activities, which includes temperature check and diagnosis questions.  Fever is defined as over 100.3 degrees.  Screening will be documented so a record will exist if there is a positive case of Covid-19.
  • Workouts will consist of pods of athletes, meaning the same players, with the same coach, working out together.
  • Any person reporting positive symptoms will not be allowed to participate in workouts and should contact their primary care physician.
  • Any participant or coach testing positive for Covid-19 will be quarantined for 14 days and will not be allowed to return without written permission from a health care provider and proof of a negative Covid test.  Additionally, the group and coach working with that player will be also quarantined for 14 days.
  • Social distancing of 6 feet will be observed by all participants, coaches, and spectators.  In the event social distancing cannot be observed masks will be worn by anyone over the age of 2 yrs old.
  • Participants will report to workouts in proper attire, and immediately return home to shower after the workout.
  • No sharing of water bottles of any kind.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at all workouts with all groups.


Stage 2 – Modified Practices (August 3rd – August 7th)

All of the procedures as outlined in the Pre-Season camp section above, as well as the following:

  • Cheer stunts are NOT allowed.
  • Individual drills that are either unopposed without contact or against tackling bags or on soft surfaces is allowed.  Social distancing is to be observed by coaches.  Bags and sleds to be sanitized between each use.
  • Footballs will be sanitized as frequently as possible.
  • To reiterate, players are required to bring their own water.  No water will be provided, and sharing is not allowed.


Stage 3 – Modified Tackling Practices (August 8th – August 12th )

All of the procedures outlined above with the following additions and adjustments:

  • Introduce football contact, including blocking and tackling, with partner or within small groups.  Large group activities (such as scrimmaging) will be limited.


Stage 4 – Return to regular practice activities (After August 12th)

Football activities are allowed to resume as normal, with the following exceptions:

  • Screening of all players, cheerleaders, and coaches will continue.
  • Social distancing will continue to be followed.
  • All screenings will continue to be recorded per state and league guidelines.
